A 19-inch rack is a standardized enclosure that holds multiple modules with a front panel that is 19 inches wide. Depending on the intended use, these 19-inch server racks differ in height and design. The height of each module is expressed in U (rack unit) or dt HE (height unit), with a HE being 1.752 inches or 44.45 mm high.

The Chieftec IPC UNC-310A-B 19 "3U Server Enclosure can accommodate four 3.5" internal hard drives and three external 5.25 "drives. In the center of the front are the two USB ports, two status LEDs, and the power and reset switches, while the left and right side bezel panels (3x5.25-inch) accommodate the drive bezels. On the right side of the front, an optional redundant power supply can be installed

A lockable front flap with two large mesh panels protect the server chassis from unauthorized access. If optional telescopic rails are used when installing the UNC-310RS-B , the housing on both handles can be pulled out of the rack for easy maintenance.

Motherboards in the ATX and Micro ATX form factors can be installed in this server chassis, and a standard ATX power supply or a redundant power supply (with optional accessories) can be installed to power the hardware. Seven PCI panels allow the installation of graphics, plug-in and expansion cards.

Two pre-installed 60 mm fans and an 80 mm fan in the rear wall serve for cooling.
